Emergent Reader's
Learning Pod
Welcome to a gentler, more joyful way to learn to read.
Taught by an experienced educator in an inviting home setting, our Emergent Reader Program is designed exclusively for children aged 5 to 8 who are at the very beginning of their reading journey or who struggle with learning to read.

In our class, stories become conversations. Conversations become writing. Writing becomes reading. Every lesson grows naturally from the one before it, helping children make meaningful connections while building confidence as readers and writers.
Who is it for?
Homeschool Families looking for structured, engaging literacy experiences.
Families preparing their child for school who want to strengthen reading,
writing, and comprehension skills.
Families whose students benefit from extra support in reading, writing,
and literacy skills.
Families whose 7 and 8-year-olds are struggling with reading and/or comprehension.

What can I expect?
We don't watch the clock or force learning into rigid subject boxes. Instead, our two hours together flow naturally from one rich idea to the next. Every topic is anchored in a beautiful story, poem, or song filled with gentle encouragement. We use these shared texts as a magical gateway to introduce deep academic concepts, like tracking print, spotting details, understanding characters, and mastering letters.
The environment is welcoming and the academics are highly intentional. We sing, play games, and laugh, but every single activity is designed to build the brainpower, vocabulary, and confidence your child needs to read and write.

A Class That Learns Together
Most of our time is spent learning together as a class. We gather to read stories, discuss ideas, solve problems, and discover new concepts as a group. Children are encouraged to participate, ask questions, share their thinking, and learn from one another while I guide the lesson forward.
As new ideas are introduced, we naturally shift into purposeful practice. Children may use individual whiteboards to try a new letter, build a sentence together, or work through a challenge before returning to the group to share what they discovered.
Learning centers are not separate activities or free-choice play. They are carefully designed extensions of the lessons. Children typically work with one or two classmates at each center, practicing literacy skills through games, puzzles, sentence building, activities, and hands-on challenges. Working in small groups helps children learn to cooperate, take turns, solve problems together, and encourage one another while strengthening the reading and writing concepts we are learning.
Throughout the room, I continue working with the children, observing their progress, asking questions, and offering support whenever it is needed.

About the Teacher
My journey as an educator began long before I had my own classroom. While attending college, I tutored my four nieces and nephews and quickly discovered how much I loved helping children make sense of the world around them.
I earned an Associate of Applied Science in Paraprofessional Education while working as an after-school lead teacher through educational grant programs. During that time, I also served as President of my college's Education Society, where I worked alongside other future educators who shared a passion for teaching.

My first school position was as a Title I instructional assistant, providing small-group support in reading, language, and mathematics. Soon after, I joined an innovative full-day kindergarten program funded through a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant. Each day I taught approximately 60 kindergarten students, blending enrichment, hands-on exploration, and academic instruction while working alongside their traditional classroom teachers.
Wanting to continue growing as an educator, I returned to college to earn a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in History and Theatre, along with my teaching certification. I later taught second grade, where I continued developing the belief that children learn best when lessons are connected, meaningful, and engaging.
After moving to Texas, our family chose to homeschool our son. That decision opened an entirely new chapter in my teaching journey. Over the years, homeschooling allowed me to rethink what education could look like when children are given time to wonder, discuss, create, and make meaningful connections between ideas.
Those experiences eventually led to the creation of Let's Do School, a growing collection of original full-length curricula designed to help students learn through introspection, conversation, creativity, and carefully connected lessons.
Today, my goal is simple: to create the kind of class I always wanted to teach in, one where children build strong literacy skills, develop confidence as learners, and discover that learning is an exciting journey of connected ideas.
